I was first introduced to the acai berry about a year ago, before all of the publicity and hype that has developed recently. It has been interesting to see many companies try and tap into the growing market. The thing that I have noticed is that many (and most recent trends) are very low quality acai, and so do not offer the nutritional, antioxidant, and health benefits that are associated with pure acai.

The acai fruit itself is amazingly beneficial to health, but many of the new and developing companies that make things like the acai pills and powders are made up of low quality acai. The acai that I use is a juice called MonaVie. It was developed three years ago as the acai was just being discovered by countries outside of Brazil (acai is native to the Amazon). They developed a patented flash freezedry process that allowed them to retain almost all of nutritional and antioxidant content of the acai berry. I was very skeptical of MonaVie at first, but as I started drinking it, I noticed that I was feeling a lot healthier. I started losing weight, I felt more energetic, and I noticed that I started sleeping better at nights. I have been drinking it for a year now, and it has worked great for me. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to try and add it to their diet to see if it works for them.

When they have double-blinded placebo controlled studies that demonstrate they actually DO something...then I'll be willing to read/listen. Until then....probably nothing more than placebo effect. Regardless of Oprah.

The fruit is really healthy but don't expect miracles from it. Of course the advertising for it is a bit over hyped like any other product.

Look, the only thing that will help you lose weight is diet and exercise. Don't spend money on these advertised quick fixes.
